Training | Week 17 – Indianapolis Monumental Marathon

Ahhhhhhhh!!! Taper time, the time to maintain the level of fitness that I’ve built up for the past 16 weeks and more importantly, heal any of those lingering bumps and bruises that come with training. You should see my feet! :) With that said, the miles dropped dramatically, down to 35, but that wasn’t the green light to mail it in until race day. In particular, on Tuesday I ran a 4 mile tempo run with a per mile goal of 10K to 15K pace (6:30-6:44). But, for those in the greater Indianapolis area, you know that Tuesday was also the day tornadoes rumbled into town. Fortunately though for me, since I run in the morning, the only thing I had to contend with was an incredible head wind, no rain. I settled into a comfortable rhythm and hammered out the following splits:

mile 1 – 6:36
mile 2 – 6:34
mile 3 – 6:22
mile 4 – 6:25

One week to go!

HIGHLIGHTS: Longest run: 12 miles | Fastest mile: 6:22 | Total miles: 35 | Miles to date: 735.2

…and it’s on to week 18.
